Radiofrequency

For Moles, Skin Tag, Warts and Thread Veins
For many of us, moles, skin tags and thread veins are simply annoying.

If we have extensive covering on the face or parts of the body visible on a daily basis, it can be particularly embarrassing.

And if we have them in areas where they can be caught or snagged, it can cause discomfort, pain, bleeding and, in some cases, infection.

With the increase in cases of skin cancer, we always recommend you have your skin tags and moles checked by a doctor. Fortunately, these growths are not usually cancerous. But still, many of us would like to eradicate these irregularities on the skin’s surface.

Radiofrequency treatments at Dr MediSpa

At Dr MediSpa, we use an innovative technology to treat and permanently remove unwanted moles, thread veins, warts, skin tags and other lumps and bumps on the skin.

Radiofrequency (or radio wave) surgery is a safe and quick treatment that uses radio waves to pass through the skin to remove or re-shape lesions.

Depending on the type of lesion we are treating, the chosen electrode will use a fine needle, a wire loop or a scalpel blade. We cut and simultaneously coagulate the tissues of the lesion using high frequency alternating current, without applying any pressure.

Is radiofrequency therapy safe?

Radiofrequency treatment (or ‘radiotherapy’) is a safe and relatively comfortable procedure with a comparatively short healing time.

It avoids the risks associated with procedures such as electrosurgery. Traditional electrosurgery devices cut into the skin tissues by passing an electronic current through them. The high temperatures involved can cause extensive damage to surrounding tissues, as well as post-operative pain from unsealed nerve endings.

Radiotherapy, however, is able to safely and effectively seal the skin tissue at low temperatures. As the nerve endings are fully sealed, this also helps to avoid post-treatment pain.

Does the procedure hurt?

During the procedure, you may notice some sensation of tugging and pulling as the mole or lesion is removed.

But since we apply a local anaesthetic before the treatment, you should not feel any pain and should be able to tolerate the procedure easily.

For a few days after the procedure, you may experience slight swelling, bruising, redness and tenderness in the treated areas. This is normal and we will apply a suitable dressing to protect the treated area if it does feel tender.

You should be able to return to your daily activities immediately following the treatment.

What are the risks?

It is theoretically possible to experience minor electrical shocks or burns – if you were to touch another metal surface during the procedure.

However, we make sure you are in a suitable position for the treatment and not touching other metal surfaces or objects.
