Sculptra at Dr MediSpa

Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the body. It makes up around 75 percent of our skin. There are several types of collagen and out of these types, type 1 and type 3 are most prevalent in the health and resilience of the skin.

Type 1 is the main structural component of the skin, where type 3 plays an important role in healing and repair.
Therefore, it’s no wonder that as the ageing process takes its toll and collagen depletes, that we can start to see the effects of this, in our complexion.

Increasing levels of collagen is vital to maintain a youthful skin appearance and at Dr Medispa in London and Essex, we offer Sculptra, an injectable collagen biostimulator, to help your skin to rejuvenate and revive itself, from within.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a substance which is made from poly-lactic acid (PLLA), a fully absorbed polymer, which works deeply within the skin tissues to improve its inner structure, over a series of treatments.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra works with your skin on a cellular level, stimulating it to produce its own natural collagen over time. Sculptra helps to correct shallow to deep facial lines and wrinkles and folds, resulting in a firmer, younger looking skin. It is important that you understand that Sculptra is simply a collagen stimulator and not a heavy, cross-linked dermal filler.

What happens during a Sculptra treatment?

Your skin is cleansed and sterilised and your practitioner will mark out where the injection points will be, after an initial examination. When Sculptra is injected in to the skin, the PLLA microparticles stimulate the replacement of lost collagen. Over time, collagen production is increased and your skin looks healthier, feels firmer and appears lifted.

How many Sculptra treatment sessions will I need?

In general, most patients will require around 3 treatment sessions to achieve optimum results. These treatments are typically spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. This means that the total time to complete the entire treatment course is around 6 to 12 weeks. However, these are general guidelines and your individual treatment plan will be discussed in your no obligation consultation, here at Dr Medispa.

Am I suitable for a Sculptra treatment at Dr Medispa?

To determine whether you are a suitable candidate for Sculptra, Dr Somji will conduct a no obligation consultation to assess your skin quality and discuss your concerns, as well as check your medical history to ensure you are fit and well enough for treatment and have no contraindications which may affect your procedure. Most patients from the age of 35 could benefit considerably from a Sculptra treatment, if they are experiencing skin ageing and dehydration, as well as lines and wrinkles. However, before we can agree to treat you with Sculptra, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation with one of our practitioners.
It is at this initial meeting that you will be able to discuss at length, your medical history, desires for results and the treatment plan that your practitioner advises. You can also ask any questions that you have about the treatment, as well as aftercare, follow up and how many sessions that your practitioner thinks you will need.

What happens during a treatment with Sculptra?

As with any injectable cosmetic procedure, a small amount of numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area if Dr Somji feels it is necessary. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, Dr Somji will inject small quantities of the Sculptra product in to your skin tissues. He will then give you advice on what to do after your treatment and any aftercare products he recommends

What are the potential side-effects of a Sculptra treatment?

The most common side-effects after an initial Sculptra treatment include swelling at the injection site, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching and lumps. These are all very normal and will subside in a day or so. Your practitioner will advise on suitable preventative measures to take before your treatment, as well as aftercare, to minimise potential side-effects.

What are the results from a Sculptra treatment?

Sculptra offers proven efficacy and results that last up to 2 years. These results can include a long lasting improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, an increase in elasticity and improved overall skin quality and radiance, 12 months after treatment and a more youthful glow to the skin with a lifting effect of skin sagging and laxity.
