Sculptra

As skin ages, it can lose vital substances such as collagen and elastin, the building blocks of healthy, youthful-looking skin. This can cause the skin to start to look tired, dehydrated and saggy.

It’s then we may start to look at solutions that require more than just expensive jars of face cream and luxury facials.

At Dr. MediSpa in Loughton and Harley Street, London, we offer a range of injectable products to combat the signs of ageing skin and to create an improved skin quality as well as to plump and refill areas of lost volume. One of the most effective and long-lasting collagen stimulating products we use is Sculptra.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Sculptra unique?

Sculptra is a non-hyaluronic acid injectable cosmetic collagen enhancer, used to restore facial volume over time. Sculptra contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic substance that stimulates your own collagen production. Sculptra can be used to treat deep lines, creases and folds to give a more youthful, vibrant appearance.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra works with your skin on a cellular level, stimulating it to produce its own natural collagen over time. Sculptra helps to correct shallow to deep facial lines and wrinkles and folds, resulting in a firmer, younger looking skin. It is important that you understand that Sculptra is simply a collagen stimulator and not a heavy, cross-linked dermal filler.

How do I know I am suitable for Sculptra?

To determine whether you are a suitable candidate for Sculptra, Dr Somji will conduct a no obligation consultation to assess your skin quality and discuss your concerns, as well as check your medical history to ensure you are fit and well enough for treatment and have no contraindications which may affect your procedure.

What happens during a treatment with Sculptra?

As with any injectable cosmetic procedure, a small amount of numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area if Dr Somji feels it is necessary. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, Dr Somji will inject small quantities of the Sculptra product in to your skin tissues. He will then give you advice on what to do after your treatment and any aftercare products he recommends.

Is there any downtime or side-effects?

There is no clinical downtime with Sculptra and you can return to your daily activities within reason. Though strenuous exercise and taking saunas or steam rooms is not advised for a couple of days after your treatment. You may experience some tenderness, swelling and bruising in the treatment area but this is normal and will subside in a few days.

When will I see results with Sculptra?

As Sculptra targets the underlying causes of the signs of ageing and encourages collagen production, the results can emerge subtly and last more than two years. In the first few weeks you will probably see some visible results but as the production of new collagen is a gradual process, optimum results will be seen following a course of several treatment sessions.
