The onset of ageing can be unkind. As we gradually lose so many vital components such as bone mass, tissue, fat, elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid from our faces as we grow older, detrimental effects such as skin sagging, dehydration and loss of volume can occur. One of the key areas that can suffer with age is the cheeks and lower face.
To ensure that you remain comfortable throughout your treatment, a small amount of topical numbing cream will be applied to the area of injection.
As most dermal fillers now contain Lidocaine, an anaesthetic which numbs at the point of injection, you will feel very little discomfort. Dr. Somji will then use a cannula (a blunt needle used for larger areas) or a traditional needle to inject the dermal filler in to the cheek area.
He will then massage the dermal filler with his fingers to give a natural contour and smooth appearance.
It is helpful if the area to be treated is shaved and free of creams, lotions or perfumes before you arrive for your appointment.
As dermal fillers contain Lidocaine, you should not feel any pain during this treatment. If Dr. Somji uses a cannula you may experience a little tugging and pulling which is completely normal. You may also feel a sensation of pressure as the product is injected in to the skin. These sensations can be a little strange but not uncomfortable. If you are extremely sensitive, Dr. Somji may decide to inject an anaesthetic prior to the treatment so that you are completely comfortable.
There is no downtime following the treatment, and you can return to your daily activities straight away.
Some people may experience a slight warmth or redness in the treated areas, but this is unusual and should disappear within a few hours.
