Thread lift for the neck

As we age the skin loses its elasticity and ‘bounce’. This is due to the depletion of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid within the skin. These are the building blocks of healthy and youthful skin and when reduced can lead to a dryness and dehydration as well as sagging areas of the lower face and neck.

At Dr MediSpa we understand that ageing can affect not only our looks but our sense of wellbeing. This is why we have an armoury of effective, clinically proven treatments to counteract the effects of ageing on the skin and restore confidence in our patients.

The neck

For areas such as the neck that may need a lift as the ageing process takes hold, we use threads which are inserted in to the skin to physically lift the skin for a more toned and tight appearance. We use threads made of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and this biodegradable material is bio-compatible within the body. This makes it a safe option for medical use. This material is not only used in threads, but in medical sutures, infusion equipment and implants.

Am I suitable for threads?

Most people who are experiencing sagging areas of the skin can have a thread-lifting treatment. However, here at Dr MediSpa, we will always ask to you attend a no obligation consultation so that Dr Somji can assess your individual concerns as well as check your medical history, to ensure that it is both a safe and appropriate treatment for your individual concerns.

How do threads work?

Thread-lifting works in two ways. First, there is an immediate tightening and lifting effect as the threads are inserted in to the neck area using a fine gauge needle or specially designed cannula. Secondly, the insertion of threads will cause ‘trauma’ to the skin, which in turn tells the body to produce a ‘healing response’. Increased production of substances such as collagen and elastin help to improve skin tone, texture and elasticity over time.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the treatment take?

Threads for the neck takes between 20 and 30 minutes, which makes it a very convenient walk-in-walk-out treatment. There are no incisions, no general anaesthetic and no hospital stay, unlike surgical options.

Does treatment with threads hurt?

A local anaesthetic will be used before your treatment to minimise discomfort and you may be offered an ice pack afterwards, to reduce any bruising or swelling that may occur.

Is there any aftercare?

Dr Munir will recommend not to undergo any massage or cosmetic treatments in the weeks that follow treatment with threads, so that they can settle and take their full effect within the skin.

When will I see the results?

The results come in 2 stages. You’ll see an immediate lifting effect as the threads ‘physically’ lift and tighten the skin. The second stage will take place in the weeks and months following treatment. This happens as the collagen and elastin fibres within the skin tissues increase and improve overall skin quality and resilience.

How long will results from threads last?

Expect results to last up to around 18 months. However, results vary from patient to patient and if you undergo excessive sun-exposure, smoke or drink excessive amounts of alcohol, you may find that results may not last as long.
