Stretch marks

About stretch marks

Stretch marks – also called striae – are usually associated with pregnancy, but can have other causes too.

As they can appear wherever the skin has been stretched, bodybuilders and teenage boys sometimes get stretch marks, particularly on the back or shoulders. In rare cases, stretch marks can also appear on the face.

The most common areas affected by stretch marks, however, are where fat is stored. These include the:

  • abdomen
  • upper arms
  • breasts
  • buttocks and
  • thighs.

The lesions from stretch mark scarring will gradually fade, from red or purple lines to a white or silver colour, but won’t disappear completely.

If you are self-conscious about your stretch marks, we have a range of treatments that can help to reduce or remove their appearance.

Treatments for stretch marks

The following treatments are designed to target stretch marks and scarring, wherever they are on your body.

  • carboxytherapy
  • Dermapen micro-needling
  • iPixel laser treatment
  • skin peels.

Carboxytherapy (also called carbon dioxide therapy or CDT) uses carbon dioxide gas for cosmetic body sculpting and skin rejuvenation.

It is a non-surgical treatment for removing cellulite and localised fat as well as stretch marks, scarring, and tired or ageing skin.

Dermapen micro-needling is a non-surgical treatment that uses a device with tiny needles to puncture the skin. It promotes your skin’s own healing mechanisms to stimulate new collagen growth, improve skin texture and reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scarring.

iPixel laser treatment helps to reduces or removes the appearance of different marks and blemishes on the skin including stretch marks and scarring.

Compared to older resurfacing laser technologies, iPixel is part of the new generation of non-ablative, fractional lasers that give superior results with less downtime.

Skin peels use chemical solutions to remove old skin cells and allow newer, smoother skin to appear.

At Dr MediSpa, we offer skin peels from the SkinMed, Tebiskin Cytoceuticals and EnerPeel ranges.
