What is Sofwave™ ?

Sofwave™ is an FDA-approved, non-ablative, non-invasive treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. It uses a new and innovative SUPERB™ Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology, which is designed to offer optimum convenience but with minimal downtime and discomfort, so you can get on with your daily routines, immediately after a treatment.

This technology offers fractional heating of the dermal layers, to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin fibres, in order to tighten and tone the skin, as well as reduce lines and wrinkles.

Sofwave™ delivers energy in a controlled way, by means of output and location. This protects the skin’s surface, along with an integrated Sofcool™ cooling system, helping to minimise downtime and disruption.

Am I suitable for a treatment using Sofwave™?

As Sofwave™ is non-invasive and non-ablative, it is suitable for all skin types and colours, however, before we can offer you this treatment, here at DrMedispa, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation and skin analysis, so your practitioner can not only assess your skin concerns, but can check your medical history, to ensure that you are a suitable candidate to have this treatment.

It may be that Sofwave forms part of a multi-step treatment plan, or that the DrMedispa team think an alternative treatment may suit your needs and goals better.

What happens during a Sofwave™ treatment at DrMedispa?

Your skin will be cleansed and prepped for the treatment. After which, your practitioner will pass the Sofwave handpiece across your skin. The ultrasound energy passes through the skin’s surface, heating up the mid-dermal tissues, at a depth of 1.5mm.

The precise temperature will rejuvenate collagen fibres without damaging the surrounding skin tissues and the Sofcool™ cooling technology helps to maintain a comfortable treatment.

After the treatment, your skin will be stimulated to create a healing response, called neo-collagenesis. This increases the production of collagen within the skin, helping to reduce lines and wrinkles.

Sofwave™ vs Ultherapy

Here at DrMediSpa we have used Ultherapy historically for nearly a decade. Up until the release of Sofwave it was seen as the gold standard for non-surgical lifting and rejuvenation. As a clinic that prides itself on offering the latest technology, we were pleased to hear of the launch of Sofwave which represents an improvement in technology as well as optimal results for patients.

Sofwave™ is an FDA approved device that uses its patented Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam technology to firm, tighten, lift and sculpt the skin of the face, neck and body. Given the fact that Ultrasound energy works from the inside out it yields long lasting results with minimal if not no downtime.

Ultherapy and other low powered devices such as HIFU also use ultrasound technology but the energy delivery is not precise. This is because the energy is released perpendicular to the skin resulting in non-focused delivery and the danger of damaging deeper structures. In contrast Sofwave™ releases energy perpendicular to the skin at an accurate depth of 1.5mm which represents the optimum depth to stimulate collagen and elastin fibres. This in turn reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and tightens and lifts the face and neck. The tip is also cooled for the comfort of the patient making the treatment more comfortable than Ultherapy.

Sofwave™ vs HIFU

HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) is a similar concept to that of Sofwave™. However, HIFU can only deliver sequentially tiny dots of ultrasound energy, whereas
Sofwave™ can deliver 7 parallel cylindrical, high-intensity energy beams, simultaneously in at a depth of 1.5mm in to the dermis. This ensures a more even coverage and a more comprehensive treatment in one session.

Sofwave™ vs Radiofrequency and RF microneedling (Morpheus8)

Morpheus8 is an advanced radiofrequency microneedling technology which targets the
deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Morpheus8 smooths
fine lines, fading age spots and resurfaces the skin. However, if you are someone who
requires significant facial tightening and have thinner skin, Sofwave™ will most likely be
more suited to you.

Sofwave™ has the primary focus of delivering deep tightening of the skin to the mid dermal
layers. Therefore in essence, each technology performs a different task for the skin. If you

Combining Sofwave™ with other treatments

Sofwave™ is a versatile treatment which can be combined with other anti-ageing procedures. Our ocularplastic surgeon here at DrMediSpa often combines blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) and Sofwave™ to promote a tighter and smoother skin tone, following the surgery itself.

If you have significant skin pigmentation or wish to resurface the skin, as well as tighten the complexion, Sofwave™ may be used in conjunction with other technologies, such as Morpheus8 or even dermal peels.

How long does a Sofwave™ treatment take?

A 30-45 minute treatment is usually all that is required to offer full face rejuvenation. However, you may need more than one session for optimal results.

Does Sofwave™ hurt?

No, Sofwave offers a comfortable treatment with minimal to no downtime, making this treatment ideal for those with busy lifestyles and who would like a treatment in their lunch hour.

When will I see the results of my Sofwave treatment?

Sofwave is a highly-effective treatment which can often deliver visible results in a single treatment (however, your estimated treatment plan will be discussed in your initial consultation) and after 1 week you should start to see some improvement, as the skin begins to regenerate collagen. Over a period of 12 weeks, you should see continuing improvements, with the skin becoming smoother, tighter, more toned and lifted.

How long will my results last?

If you take care of your skin and general health, the results from a Sofwave treatment could last anything up to 12 months. It is usually at the 12 month stage that you may need a maintenance session, to regenerate your results.
