PDO Thread Lift

As we get older and collagen and elastin levels in the skin are depleted, we can lose that taught, youthful look. We start to experience jowls, sagging in the neck and cheeks, and drooped eyelids.

We may not want or need invasive surgery, so we look for effective alternatives to going under the knife. Which is why PDO threads offer an ideal non-surgical, non-invasive option.

PDO (polydioxanone) threads are becoming increasingly popular as an effective treatment for sagging and loose skin in all areas of the face and body. Already very popular in the Far East including Korea and Japan, these threads have been used in medicine for sutures (stitches) for over 30 years.

Frequently asked questions

How do PDO threads work?

We insert the threads under the skin using a needle in a way that replicates the ‘acupuncture’ technique – the thread is carried within the needle and deposited under the skin.

This encourages the body to form new collagen around the thread, responding to it in the same way it does to an injury by repairing it with the renewed collagen.

The threads fully dissolve over the course of a few months, which makes them safe to use in the body.

All that’s left behind is the results of the collagen production: smoother, tighter and more youthful-looking skin.

How do I know if I qualify for PDO threads?

The procedure is suitable for most patients from the age of 25 onward, when the effects of ageing (thinning tissues due to breakdown of collagen and elastin) start to become apparent.

Does it hurt?

The procedure is not painful for most patients.

However, in some cases we can apply a topical anaesthesia to completely numb the area to be treated.

You need to allow up to an hour for the anaesthetic to take effect.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time depends on how many areas we are treating.

Most procedures take about an hour, up to an hour and a half.

Is there any downtime?

Following your treatment, you may experience some mild swelling and bruising.

We can provide a topical gel for you to use at home, to soothe and minimise further bruising.

Symptoms should not last more than a day or so.

How long do the results last?

The results of this treatment can typically last up to 2 years.

You may also want to use PDO threads together with wrinkle-smoothing injections and dermal fillers for a holistic rejuvenation programme.
