The nose is a particularly prominent feature of the face and even subtle changes in its shape or size can make a significant difference to your facial appearance. If your nose has a slight bump, is perhaps a little crooked or a less than pleasing shape for you, a solution may be available which does not resort to surgical intervention.
Dermal fillers, when injected in to very specific areas of the nose can fill out and re-contour the area and produce a more pleasing shape. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body responsible for youthful and firm skin. When used in the nasal area a thicker and more viscous product is applied, giving structure and support to weaker or misshapen areas of the nose, mimicking cartilage and smoothing the contours. For those individuals requiring a crisper contour PDO and PLLA threads (dissolvable sutures) can be inserted to provide further longer lasting contour. They can also help lift the nasal tip which dermal fillers can only achieve to a certain extent. Depending on your requirement we would either inject filler of place threads in the nose or both.
Prior to any non-surgical treatment, Dr. Somji will assess your concerns and requirements in a full pre-treatment consultation, conducted here at our Loughton-based clinic and London clinic. He will take a full medical history and assess your facial proportions to ascertain whether the treatment will be suitable for you and how the most pleasing outcome can be achieved.
Following your consultation, you’ll be invited back to the clinic for treatment. Injectable or topical anaesthetic will be administered to the area so that you do not feel any discomfort. In most injectable dermal fillers, an anaesthetic is already present and therefore a prior-injected anaesthetic is not required and you may simply need a little topical numbing cream. Small injections of dermal filler/threads will be administered to the areas of concern and Dr. Somji will shape and massage the product for your desired result. The procedure takes around 15 to 20 minutes but allow at least 40 minutes for numbing cream application and effect.
You will see the results straight away as dermal fillers in the nose create a ‘scaffold’ for the tissues. There will also be a period of slight swelling and for the substance to settle in before you will see the full result. After a couple of weeks, if you feel you’d like some small adjustments or a ‘top up’ you will be able to book an appointment with Dr. Somji.
You may experience some swelling, redness and bruising following this treatment and this is quite normal and should subside within a day or so. You will be able to cover any bruising with light make-up a few hours after the treatment. As there is no sedation or general anaesthetic required for non-surgical rhinoplasty, you will be free to carry on with your daily activities as soon as you leave the clinic as long as you follow all aftercare instructions.
You will be advised not to rub or touch the area treated for at least 4 hours after this treatment and to sleep on your back so that the product has time to settle. It is advisable to abstain from strenuous activity for 24 hours after treatment and not to consume alcohol or caffeine prior or following your treatment as this can increase vascular activity and promote bruising. Avoiding hot saunas, steam rooms or baths after the treatment for up to a week afterwards is also advisable.
The results can last from 6-18 months depending on the type product that Dr. Somji uses and your individual response and lifestyle. If you are a sun lover, heavy gym goer or you smoke expect the results to last slightly less as any negative effects on the skin can reduce result times. Dr. Somji can also inject longer lasting fillers up to 4 years for patients requiring longer benefits
Please note that for first time non surgical rhinoplasty a top up procedure is sometimes required to perfect the nose.
Non-surgical rhinoplasty can be a simple and fast solution to a misshaped nose and is becoming hugely popular for those who would like to refine and revitalise their facial features.
