How does fat transfer for the face work?

First, a small amount of your body fat is removed using a keyhole stitch free technique perfected by Dr. Somji. Once the fat has been collected, it is then purified to separate the healthy fat cells from any damaged ones. This specific method of fat collection ensures a high percentage of fat survival. The fat cells are then further purified into microfat for replacement of volume as a filler it also dramatically reduces the risk of lumps post injection as the fat is filtered into a smooth consistency similar to that of filler. This is generally termed as ‘liquid gold’ which not only adds volume subtly to the face it also improves the skin quality. Dr. Somji is also able to extract and inject an even smoother version of fat which contains the highest level of stem cells in facial plastic surgery called nanofat. Nanofat dramatically helps skin quality and is a gold standard for dark circles underneath the eyes. Typically, with fat transfer for the face a local anaesthetic is only usually necessary which minimises downtime. Patients are able to tolerate the procedure comfortably and the injection of fat is similar to that of dermal filler injections.

Am I suitable for fat transfer for the face?

What is the downtime with fat grafting for the face?

Downtime can vary from person to person. As there are two areas of treatment (one being the harvest site and the other where the fat is re-injected) you should allow a week or so for any swelling and bruising to settle down. Light medical or mineral make up can be used on the face 24 hours following the procedure to cover any possible bruises and your post-treatment care plan will be discussed with you at your consultation with Dr. Somji.
