Breast Augmentation

Breast surgery is the number one surgical treatment in the UK, according to BAAPS. The breast augmentation journey is something you can share with us at Dr Medispa.

If you dream of larger and more flattering breasts, you may be considering having breast augmentation surgery. Otherwise referred to as a ‘boob job’, breast augmentation is still one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures, and our resident surgeon at Dr MediSpa is one of the UK’s leading specialists in this field.

What is breast augmentation surgery?

Breast implant surgery is a surgical procedure which utilizes a prosthesis to change the size, shape and profile of a patient’s breast. Breast augmentation for cosmetic reasons uses the natural shape of the breast and specifically chosen implants to enhance and enlarge them.

Am I suitable for breast augmentation?

Most patients who are otherwise fit and well and who are seeking to enlarge their breasts will usually be suitable for a boob job.

However, before any treatment here at Dr MediSpa, we will ask that you attend a no-obligation consultation, to discuss your individual case, examine your breasts to ensure a surgical procedure will be beneficial and also check your medical history. This initial meeting may lead on to two or even three consultations before you finally make your decision and we will never make you feel pressurized into making a fast decision about any of the treatments we offer here at Dr MediSpa.

These initial consultations are is a vital part of your patient journey and will allow you to discuss your concerns, what to expect from the procedure itself, the healing process and how to take care of yourself, following your procedure. Once you are fully satisfied that breast augmentation is the route you would like to take, we can arrange your surgery date.

Breast Augmentation FAQs

What happens during a breast augmentation procedure?

Every woman is unique, and just as no two women are the same, every breast augmentation surgery we perform is tailored to the patient’s needs.

The techniques that the surgeon will use along with the type of breast implants used will all depend on your anatomy, desire for results and the best possible outcome for your lifestyle and body shape. At Dr MediSpa, we use FDA-approved cohesive gel, silicone implants. We perform breast augmentation with implants using a short-scar surgical technique to achieve safe implant placement and produce little-to-no scarring.

Your breast surgery is performed by one of our surgeons, in a partner private hospital.

We can sometimes perform the procedure under a local anaesthetic or twilight sedation, but this is something we will determine in your initial consultation. Performing surgery with twilight will mean that your procedure is entirely pain-free but with fewer side-effects than general anaesthesia.

If your surgeon decides to offer you a general anaesthetic, you won’t be aware of the surgery itself. In recovery, you will be taken care of by one of the nurses, who will be with you during your wake-up period. Your nurse will help you to wake up fully and will prepare you for leaving the surgery, but not before you have eaten something and used the toilet. Usually, after a couple of hours and a visit from the surgeon to de-brief you on the surgery and to ensure you are fit and well to travel, you will be allowed to go home to recover.

What happens after breast augmentation surgery?

After your surgery, you will need a period to rest well so that your body can recover and fully heal. This can take anything from a week to 2 weeks. However, our newer techniques can mean that you heal faster than some of the traditional methods. You’ll be required to wear a special support bra, every day and night for around 2 to 4 weeks and may be offered a support strap for a couple of days to keep your new breasts in place.

You will be able to gradually return to your normal activities, such as going to the gym and carrying heavy shopping within around six weeks. During this time, you may be slightly tender and uncomfortable, and you will also be tired for about a week afterwards as your body is recovering from surgery. You will be provided with pain killers so that you are as comfortable as possible, throughout your recovery. Your recovery will be faster if you get plenty of rest and eat a healthy diet such as lean protein, fresh fruit and vegetables and good carbs like brown rice, sourdough bread and wholemeal pasta. Post-breast surgery is not a time to restrict your diet. Food can help the body heal.

What can I expect after my breast augmentation?

Your breasts might look larger than expected and feel a little unnatural immediately after your surgery. They may feel swollen and a little heavy, but this is entirely normal. Your breasts will soften over a period of a few weeks and will settle into their new shape. At around four weeks post-procedure, you will return to the clinic for a follow-up appointment.
In the weeks that follow your surgery, you might be concerned with how your breasts change and certain sensations, such as sharp, stabbing pains, tingling and numbness. These sensations are all part of the healing process and are standard responses. At Dr MediSpa, our surgical team are available whenever you need to discuss any concerns you might have. We understand that your body will be going through some changes and this may seem a little odd, so we are here for you, at every step.

How long do the results last?

The results of breast augmentation surgery are long-term. With the latest technology in breast implants and modern techniques, in many cases, revision surgery is not required for 15 to 20 years.

Should I get a boob job abroad?

The risks associated with travelling abroad for cosmetic surgery outweigh the savings. Searching for the cheapest country for breast surgery might save you money, but you will need insurance, and if any complications arise, it is always best to be in the same country as your surgeon! Dr Medispa do not endorse cheap plastic surgery abroad.
